Blue Cowboy Boots

I was in the shower this morning, when out of nowhere, an image of blue cowboy boots flashed into my mind (alas, I don’t currently own a pair of any type of cowboy boots). On the heels of that, I recalled a story I’d heard years ago of a young Katrina wearing blue cowboy boots to her aunt’s wedding. I don’t remember much about this, but I wish I did. I do vaguely recall that in one of my mom’s photo albums there’s evidence. Little Katrina, in a pink dress, wearing those blue boots.
Here’s how I think it went down. My mom had picked out some pretty shoes for me. I turned my nose up at them. My mom left early to help with prep at the wedding and little Katrina hid the shoes she didn’t like. It was my dad’s responsibility to get me to the wedding and, well, I insisted on the blue cowboy boots and that wonderful, treasure of a man just let me.
I’m pretty sure that not only was I the only one in attendance at that wedding in a dress and cowboy boots- I was the only one wearing cowboy boots, period (unless, maybe my dad was...?). And…did I already mention that they were blue? I also think my mom just rolled her eyes at the shoes and was happy I hadn’t changed out of the dress.
The point: If blue cowboy boots make you happy, wear the damn boots.
I don't have a copy of that legendary photo, but I do have this one. That's the little girl who chose the boots over shiny dress shoes.
